Many surprises on third day

Barcelona Olympic Sailing Week - Many surprises on third day
BARCELONA, SPAIN-(15-3-2005)

The third day at PHÂRO regatta-Semana Olimpica de Barcelona was useful to reconfirm the leadership of the five Spanish crews.

In Laser class, the first and big favorite, the Italian Diego Negri, is followed by Allan Julie from Seychelles. The third place is for Javier Hernández from Tenerife.

In Radial Laser class two Spanish representatives-Alicia Cebrían from Tenerife and Lucia Reyes from Cartagena- reached the second and third position even though the Italian Larissa Nevierov was the leader of the class.

In the 470 class, both feminine and masculine Spain leads the class. In the feminine category the twice Olympic medal winner, Natalia Via Dufresne and Laia Tutzó increase their advantage over the masculine class and in the masculine class Marc Patiño and Juan Omar have placed themselves first. In the 49 er class, Alberto Padrón and Javier de la Plaza are still on the top, like Fernando Echavarri and Antón Paz in Tornado. In Europe Marc Paris also leads the way.

In the 470 feminine class, Natalia Via Dufresne and Laia Tutzó don’t leave chances to their opponents still and they already are eight points ahead over Sylvia Vogl and Carolina Flatscher from Austria. The third place is for the Italian Natalie Testa and Silvia Cattarini. In the masculine category Marc Patiño and Juan Omar have surpassed the number one in the World ranking, the Italian Gabrio Zandoná and Francesco Della Torre that are now second for six points behind. The third place is for Syen Coster and Kalle Coster from Holland.

In the 49 er class, Alberto Padrón and Javier de la Plaza were also able to increase their advantage for six points over the Italian Pietro and Gianfranco Sibello. The third place went to Alejandro Domínguez and Carlos de Bricio from Andalusia.

In the Tornado class, Fernando Echavarri and Antón Paz have conquered three minutes that help them increase their advantage over the Russian Andrey Kirilyuk and Valery Ushov. Third in the class are the Italian Vicenio Sorrentino, and Giorgo Colombo.

In the Europe Class, the Catalan Marc Paris keeps the good results and exceeds for seven points to Tomas Vika from Checoslovaquia. On the third place we find the Elisabeth Llargues from Catalunya.

In the Finn class, medal winner Rafa Trujillo has lost his leadership after finishing in second place twice. On top of him is Guillaume Florent from France with three points ahead over the Andalusian. The third place for this class went to Pablo Arrate from Cantabria.

The day started with delay due to the low intensity of the wind but it changed to a slow wind from the south at the beginning of the afternoon. This change let all the races be disputed.

Tomorrow is the end of PHARO regatta –BOSW and the organization committee has decided to start the day earlier, at 11:30.
